Silk and gold. 15th–18th century silk fabrics in the collection of liturgical...

The catalogue contains an illustrated story about the main stages of the history of silk weaving in Europe and this country. The first part of the book is devoted to the earliest 15th-16th century Italian brocades that have survived in Lithuania. The old liturgical vestments of Vilnius Cathedral were made from these brocades. The second part of the book focuses on French, above all, Lyon textiles that became predominant in Europe and superseded all the others in the 18th century. The third part discusses the silk weaving workshops that operated in the second half of the 18th century. A decoration of the noble’s costume – kontusz sashes – is an example of the production of these workshops.
Holy cards with Representations of Infant Jesus from the Collection of...

The collection of holy cards of the Reverend Mozė Mitkevičius presented in the catalogue of exhibition is not the largest in Lithuania. However, it is quite substantial, and the prevailing production of the most important European and Lithuanian publishers of holy cards of the 19th – first half of the 20th century allows us to see the key tendencies of the tradition of holy cards – the nature and intentions of religiosity, iconographic panorama, fashions of artistic expression and decoration, and various production techniques. And, certainly, the human touch.
