Lobynas (Šv. Mykolo g. 9)
On 17 July, the Museum of Church Heritage hosted the roundtable discussion "Museum Conversations: Between Lithuania and India", bringing together museum professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities of preserving Catholic heritage. The discussion explored common ground between museums in Lithuania and India. Although the two countries are separated by thousands of kilometres, they are united by a shared Catholic heritage and face similar questions regarding its interpretation, research, and preservation.
On that day, the museum welcomed Diana Mickevičienė, Ambassador of Lithuania to India; Natasha Fernandes, Director of the Museum of Christian Art (MoCA) in Goa, India; and Sigita Maslauskaitė-Mažylienė, Ambassador of Lithuania to the Holy See and the Sovereign Order of Malta. The Director and staff of the Museum of Church Heritage introduced the guests to the museum's latest exhibition and its collections.
During the discussion, Natasha Fernandes presented the Museum of Christian Art (MoCA) in Goa, housed in a historic former convent. She introduced the museum's collection and activities, and spoke about the challenges of preserving and promoting Christian heritage in India. Alina Pavasarytė, historian, member of the Museum of Church Heritage staff, and Head of the Vilnius Cathedral Bell Tower and Underground branch, gave an overview of the fate of Catholic churches during the Soviet period and discussed contemporary approaches to preserving this heritage.
